LIVE FROM WARSAW: COP 19 JUST ANOTHER COP-OUT
Tonight on Political Analysis, as the 19th UN climate summit -- or Conference of Parties (aka COP 19) -- enters its second week of negotiations and the Philippines continue to reel in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, Sandy LeonVest is joined by DeSmog Blog researcher Steve Horn and student activist Ashok Chanderwaney, skyping live from Warsaw.
Topics of discussion include the degeneration, over the years, of the UN-sponsored talks, which began as an (arguably) earnest effort to address and mitigate the damages caused by ever-accelerating global climate change. They explain how fossil fuel and Big Business interests have co-opted the climate summits, rendering them little more than farcical (yet highly publicized) PR festivals for the Dirty Energy industry.
They wrap up the show talking about where activists need to go from here.
