From the grassroots to Washington and beyond, the realities of politics and power are routinely cloaked in euphemism and evasion.

Tonight, Sandy LeonVest is joined by Norman Solomon, founder of the Institute for Public Accuracy and co-founder of the just-launched whistleblowers resource, ExposeFacts.org, along with Treasure Island whistleblower Kathryn Lundgren. The three of them blow the whistle on crimes against democracy -- and the criminals who perpetrate them.

Norman Solomon is an internationally acclaimed political journalist, media critic, author of countless books -- AND the original host of Political Analysis, before passing the torch to Sandy in 2009, when he decided to run for congress.

Kathryn Lundgren has been a resident of Treasure Island (San Francisco), California for ten years. When every member of her family began experiencing symptoms of illness -- all of them serious -- she began researching the island's history. In the process of "turning over stones," she discovered that the former US Navy training base harbored a witches' brew of toxic substances -- including asbestos, mold AND radioactive waste. Her courageous and ongoing struggle to inform, protect and defend the health and welfare of her family -- and her community -- has pit Kathryn Lundgren against a "battery of beasts," including Big Developers, the SF political establishment AND the US Navy.

TONIGHT on Political Analysis, DeSmog Blog's Steve Horn joins Sandy LeonVest for MEET THE BEAST -- Part 11.

They discuss the escalating violence in Iraq, the connection between militarism and fossil fuel extraction -- and the link between global turbulence, militarism and fossil fuels. They also discuss the current "extraction boom" here in the US and in Canada.   During the second half-hour, Steve Horn discusses the significance of the Obama Administration's new carbon rules, and whether EPA's new regulations will help mitigate accelerating climate change -- or the fossil fuel industry's "Damn the Torpedoes" approach to energy extraction. They wrap up the broadcast with a discussion of Steve Horn's hot-off-the-press article, "Silent Coup: How Enbridge Is Quietly Cloning the Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline."  Resources:  www.solartimesnow.org www.desmogblog.com

Never ending Story of Radioactive Lies, Backroom Deals and Toxic Contamination   Residents of San Francisco, California's Treasure Island have been lured into a radioactive web of lies, backroom deals and a toxic legacy that never ends ... But the City's realtors, developers and politicians have invested big bucks in the island's development -- and they're not about to let a little asbestos, dioxin, or even radioactivity stand in the way of their potential real estate bonanza.   That's why, tonight on Political Analysis, Sandy LeonVest continues her MEET THE BEAST series with US Navy veteran/ex-Treasure Island, California resident Jim Burres and resident whistleblower Kathryn Lundgren, founder of the Treasure Island Health Network, to continue unravelling the radioactive web of secrecy and lies in which so many of the island's residents find themselves trapped.

Tonight on Political Analysis, Sandy LeonVest features Part two of her series, MEET THE BEAST. This week’s show – “The Myth of Nuclear Security.”  In the wake of the March 24, 2014 Nuclear Security Summit, Sandy LeonVest is joined by *PRIZM Foundation CEO/executive director and environmental/social justice activist Chuck McCune, to talk about the myth of “nuclear security.” Chuck McCune is a licensed contractor, an architecht and a sustainability expert. As an active member of the anti-nuclear community in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, he frequently lends his expertise at nuclear hearings, reporting and testifying on various nuclear safety issues, as well as the flaws and vulnerabilities of nuclear power. Most recently, Chuck McCune testified at the WIPP (radioactive leak) hearings. Chuck McCune is also a frequent witness at NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) hearings, as well as nuclear waste confidence hearings. *WIPP is the acronym for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the nuclear waste repository in Carlsbad, New Mexico, which made headlines on February 14, 2014, when it developed a radioactive leak. Both the cause and origin of the release remain unknown. The show also features audio clips from the PBS documentary “Is Nuclear Energy Safe? Nuclear Energy Risks and Consequences,” as well as excerpts from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders grilling NRC commissioners at a 2011 Senate hearing on the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. *The PRIZM Foundation is a sustainable community-oriented nonprofit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working on global issues regarding converging potential disasters and environmental justice.
