Sandy LeonVest observes Juneteenth, kicking off the show with a 2008 audio clip of then-presidential hopeful Barack Obama's "More Perfect Union" speech, delivered in March of that year. She follows with excerpts from civil rights activist Stokely Carmichael’s Black Power Address, delivered at UC Berkeley in 1966. Next up, labor economist Sylvia Allegretto talks about increasing income and wealth disparities in the US -- and how those disparities disproportionately impact Blacks and Hispanics.

Later in the hour, SLV talks to  award-winning black comedian, civil rights activist and social commentator W. Kamau Bell about Juneteenth – its significance -- and how far American Blacks have really come in their struggle for equality.
